Playing our part

What role does research play within UBS?

As expected, research plays a high profile role within the business. Not only do we analyze the fundamentals of companies, products and markets, but we also discover new evidence that isn’t fully reflected in the current market price, to give us the edge when shaping our sales, trading, investment and advisory strategies.

Research has a major influence across the firm. Sales, trading, investment and client advisors all rely on research insight to plan ahead. Our Evidence Lab works innovatively to answer the kind of questions that can move market prices. Research is truly the brain of UBS.

Some commonly asked questions

What are we looking for?

You don’t have to have a finance or business degree to apply to one of our programs. We want students who are curious, ask questions, follow the news and understand the impact that world events have on the markets. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, but still deliver thoughtful solutions to problems is key. UBS is a great place to work and we want people who see challenges as opportunities and have a desire to grow and develop.

What can I do to stand out?

Being prepared for every step of the application process will create a great first impression. Think about the role you are applying for, what genuinely interests you, and what you can bring to the table. Talking about where your current skills may align, but also being open and honest about the gaps and where you can develop, and what you want to learn once in the role, is essential. Do your homework – reach out to your network, speak to former grads on LinkedIn or attend industry events. Finally. be yourself. At UBS we value diversity, and we are looking for people who will share our common purpose but reach our goals in different ways.

What support will I receive?

Everyone who joins us at UBS will be given a mixture of on-the-job training and formal training. When you join, you will be assigned a mentor or buddy depending on the program. Your line manager will take an active role in your career progression and development.

A few extra things to remember

Preparation is key – candidates who stand out are always prepared. Ask questions. We love talking about our roles and why UBS is a great place to work. So, don’t be shy.
